Martyn is a management professional with a passion for strategy, leadership, operational optimization and marketing. Over a career spanning some 20 years, he has accumulated a wealth of knowledge in the theory and practice of management. He is ranked 3rd on the current PriceWaterhouseCoopers list of Ghana’s Most Respected CEO’s, whilst the Company where he is Chief Executive is the 2nd Most Respected Company. Martyn holds a degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Bath, a MBA and a diploma from Imperial College, London and is the first African to be elected as a Global Marketer by the worldwide marketing association, Global Marketing Network.

In addition he serves on the board of two companies that are both members of Ghana’s Club 100 of leading corporate bodies; the first one, where he is currently the Chief Executive, is an innovator in the beverage manufacturing sector which is ranked sixth (first position in manufacturing category) on the current Ghana Club 100 listing. Martyn has been instrumental in the development, growth and transformation of this company from an indigenous owner-managed SME into one of Ghana’s most successful industrial corporate entities. Under his leadership, it has embarked on an ambitious Africa growth strategy, successfully establishing its flagship Alomo Bitters as one of the fastest growing brands in Nigeria.

The other is a pioneering financial institution that in addition to also ranking in the Top 10 of the Ghana Club 100, currently holds the title of the Most Respected Company in Ghana. As chairman of its board’s Strategy sub-committee, he was actively involved in its very successful public listing, a recent acquisition and merger that saw it take a key strategic position as a fully-fledged bank and the securing of an equity investment from the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

He is also the Chairman of the Board of Petra Trust, a pensions trustee licensed under Ghana’s new Pensions Act.

Martyn was a pioneer in the establishment of private electronic media in Ghana. As a key player in the introduction of Ghana’s first pay-television service (MNET/MultiChoice) in July 1993, he has an in-depth understanding of the electronic media, especially of television. He rose to the position of Chief Executive, giving him overall operational responsibility for the growth and development of the Ghanaian operation. He was also a member of the group’s Africa Business team, and played a key role in defining strategies for the group’s African ventures in Namibia, Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya and Tanzania.

Martyn is a founder and currently the Resident Director of Strat-Afrique Development Ltd., a South Africa based firm of international corporate strategy advisors where his vast experience in corporate strategy development and operational efficiency improvement is placed at the disposal of a wide variety of clients. Previously, Martyn founded and ran a successful local management consulting practice in Ghana that was acquired by the local office of one of the Big Four global consulting firms. He was also the Country Director and founder of Steadman Group Ghana Ltd., a joint-venture business within the Africa-wide Steadman Group, on whose Africa board he also served.

He is the Chairman of the local council of the Global Marketing Network as well as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Common Purpose Ghana, the local arm of Common Purpose International. Martyn possesses specialist knowledge in corporate strategy formulation & implementation, operations improvement, strategy mapping/communication, change & post-merger integration, business process optimization, organizational culture design, corporate finance and project management.

Martyn is also an assessor of submissions to the Ghana Academy of Arts & Sciences awards committee in the management category.
